Knowledge Mine 2025
Wikipedia goes underground – literally!
On 4 October, 2025 one of the most symbolic events of the 20th anniversary of the Wikimedia Polska Association will take place at the Guido Mine in Zabrze. In the heart of Upper Silesia, 320 metres underground, Wikipedians will take on a unique challenge – editing Wikipedia in a former coal mine. This time, it will not be natural resources that will be extracted. This time, the yield will be knowledge.
The theme of the event is “The heritage of the region and the Silesian Province.” Participants will focus on local monuments, figures and events, many of which are still missing from Wikipedia or require additional information. Thanks to the support of instructors, sources collected in cooperation with the Coal Mining Museum in Zabrze, and the experience of the Wikipedia community, knowledge about Silesia will gain a new, permanent place in the world's largest encyclopaedia.
