Please wear your conference bagde at all times while taking part in all of CEE Meeting's programme, including less formal evening events. Try not to lose it, but if you do, please visit the Information Desk as soon as possible.

Transport[edytuj | edytuj kod]

An example of Raf Trans bus

Three bus transfers will be provided free of charge. Those can be used by all delegates. The conference badges will serve as tickets. The three transfers are:

  1. Saturday, 08:15: buses departing from MDM Hotel and going to Polin Museum
  2. Saturday, 20:00: buses departing from Polin Museum and going to MDM Hotel
  3. Sunday, 08:15: buses departing from MDM Hotel and going to Polin Museum

There will be two tourist buses (coaches) for each transfer. Buses will be marked with large letters RAF TRANS on their sides (that's the name of the company we're hiring the buses from). There will be WMPL team member at each bus. Please make sure to be there on time.

All other transfers should be cared for themselves by the delegates. We recommend you use the Warsaw public transport system, which is explained below.

Security at Polin Museum[edytuj | edytuj kod]

Please note that Polin Museum is a high-security facility. This means that upon every entry to the Museum building, you will be asked to go through a metal detector and to have your bags scanned. If the metal detector alarm sounds, you will be additionally checked using a hand-held device. The security staff at Polin generally do not touch the guests during those checks - everything is done using sensors and machines. We apologize for any inconvenience caused by this and we ask you for your kind cooperation with the Museum security staff.

Smoking and drinking[edytuj | edytuj kod]

Please note that, while buying both beer and stronger alcoholic drinks is extremely easy in Warsaw, Polish law does not allow public consumption of alcohol outdoors, except for designated places, such as restaurants, bars etc.. Drinking in parks, on streets etc. may be subject to fine by police or municipal police. Smoking is generally allowed outdoors, but there are many exceptions to this, for example all public transport stations and stops. Please do not smoke inside any of the conference venues, including MDM Hotel. And just in case: all drugs, including marihuana, are totally illegal in Poland and if you get caught even with a small quantity, you may be temporarily detained and later summoned to court.

Internet access[edytuj | edytuj kod]

Free internet access will be provided via wi-fi networks both at MDM Hotel and Polin Museum. If you wish to have your own access using one of Polish mobile networks, you can easily purchase a SIM card at most newsagents or even petrol stations. However, under current Polish anti-terrorism laws, each SIM card needs to be registered (you will be asked to show your passport or other ID) before it can be activated. Please bear in mind that if you're coming from any of the EU Members States, you won't be charged any extra by your operator for using roaming in Poland (that's thanks to the new EU roaming rules, which came into effect on 15 June this year). Some data transfer limits may apply, that's up to your home operator.

Getting around[edytuj | edytuj kod]

Solaris Urbino, the most common type of public transport bus in Warsaw

Warsaw has a large and efficient system of public transport, which consists of over 300 lines. Most of these are bus lines, but there is also a number of tram lines and two metro lines.

Tickets[edytuj | edytuj kod]

You can use any entrance![edytuj | edytuj kod]

Unlike to many other public transport systems worldwide, in Warsaw you can both enter and leave every vehicle (including buses) using every door. There is no obligation to use the front door when entering and you don't need to show your ticket to the driver. Tickets are checked only by the ticket inspectors, who appear randomly, in casual clothes, but they have special ID badges on them.

Where to buy?[edytuj | edytuj kod]

Ticket vending machines at a Metro station

The tickets can be purchased from vending machines located at major stops, as well as from vending machines placed in most vehicles. Please note that while vending machines at stops accept both cash and card payments, most on-board machines accept only cards, while some of them (older ones) accept only cash.

Validation of tickets[edytuj | edytuj kod]

Ticket validator

Tickets bought outside the vehicle need to be validated in a validator (see picture) immediately after you enter the vehicle. To validate, you need to insert the ticket into the validator, with the ticket's magnetic stripe facing down. When the ticket is validated properly, a green light flashes on the validator and an imprint is made on the ticket. There are at least 2-3 validators in each vehicle. You don't need to validate the ticket bought from the machine located inside the bus or tram - the machine automatically validates it for you. If you are using a 75 minute ticket, a 24h ticket or a weekend ticket, you need to validate it only once, in the first vehicle you're using after the purchase. There's no need to validate it on each trip. The only exceptions to this are the metro lines, where you need to insert your ticket into the station gate each time you pass through it.

Zones[edytuj | edytuj kod]

The are two transport zones in the Warsaw system: Zone 1 and Zone 2. We recommend that you buy tickets only for Zone 1, which covers entire Warsaw. Zone 2 consists of the smaller towns and villages, which are served by the Warsaw public transport, but are not parts of the City of Warsaw in the administrative sense. We don't think you will have time to explore those during your short stay.

Types of tickets[edytuj | edytuj kod]

We recommend that you use the following types of tickets, depending on your plans and needs:

ticket type price description
20 minutes 3,40 PLN It gives you full access to the entire network for 20 minutes after validation.
single fare transfer 4,40 PLN It gives you full access to the network in Zone 1 for 75 minutes after validation.
one-day ticket 15 PLN It gives you full access to the network in Zone 1 for 24 hours after validation.
three-day ticket 36 PLN It gives you full access to the network in Zone 1 for 72 hours after validation.
weekend ticket 24 PLN It gives you full acccess to the entire network from 7pm on Friday to 8am on Monday.
group weekend ticket 40 PLN It gives full acccess to the entire network from 7pm on Friday to 8am on Monday to a group of up to 5 people travelling together.

Types of lines[edytuj | edytuj kod]

You can generally know the type of line by looking at its number:

  • M1, M2 - metro lines
  • xx (two digit numbers) - tram lines
  • xxx (three digit numbers) - bus lines
  • Nxx (letter "N" and two digits) - nightly bus lines

Travel planner[edytuj | edytuj kod]

If you want to plan your public transport journey like a true Warsaw guy, we recommend the mobile app JakDojadę (which means "How do I get there?" in Polish). You can also use the official planner at the website of the Warsaw Transport Authority.
